Platform Character Limits Guide
Every digital platform enforces its own character limits. Exceeding these limits can result in cut-off sentences, broken SEO tags, or failed message deliveries. Use our character counter to ensure your text fits perfectly every time.
Twitter / X
A standard tweet is limited to exactly 280 characters. Links count as 23 characters, regardless of their actual length. If you have Twitter Premium, the limit is expanded to 25,000 characters.
Instagram allows a maximum of 2,200 characters per caption and up to 30 hashtags. However, captions are truncated after the first 125 characters, so you should place the most important information at the very beginning.
SMS Text Messages
A standard SMS message holds 160 characters. Using emojis or special Unicode characters reduces this limit drastically to 70 characters per message due to encoding requirements.
SEO Titles & Descriptions
To prevent search engines like Google from truncating your results, keep Title Tags under 60 characters and Meta Descriptions under 160 characters. This ensures your snippets display correctly in search results.
